Physical exercise is highly beneficial for our health. Many experts recommend 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day at least 5 days a week. Of course, it is wise to clear physical activity with your doctor before engaging in any strenuous activity, especially if you are not physically used to it. If you are at a higher risk of heart attack or stroke, it is important to still exercise but to do so carefully with added precautions. Please consult your primary care doctor. With that being said, there are many benefits to exercise. It boosts your immune system, lowers your risks for a whole host of diseases, helps you lose weight, builds muscle, etc. Start small and slowly build up your stamina. We are happy to discuss with you ways in which you can add daily exercise to your life. Does the bible say anything about exercise? You bet! Here are a few excerpts:
“Know ye not that they which run a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 KJV
“A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might.” Proverbs 24:5 ESV
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 ESV
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 ESV
“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV
“Have nothing to do with irreverent, silly myths. Rather train yourself for godliness; for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:7-8 ESV
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the LORD and not for men,” Colossians 3:23 ESV
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,” Hebrews 12:11-12 ESV
